Deb Herman served Concordia University Chicago as chair of the Art Department, curator of the University Art Collection and tenured professor of art. She holds a M.F.A. in studio art with emphasis in fiber arts, from Northern Illinois University in De Kalb, Illinois, and a B.A. in education with an emphasis in art from Concordia University Chicago. She has been an educator for nearly forty years, teaching primary, elementary and middle school students prior to teaching at the university level.

Deb exhibits her work in local, national and international communities. Much of her work as a fiber artist includes textiles, paper and book arts. A consistent theme her work is life cycles inspired by nature.

Deb frequently shares her expertise and experiences at education conferences and workshops.

Art lesson development that develops and celebrates creativity, art curriculum development and specific art media, such as book arts and fiber arts, are her most popular topics.
